To get the best results from your handcrafted baby butter, follow these simple steps to ensure it absorbs deeply and protects your little one's delicate skin:
1. Start with Damp Skin
For maximum hydration, apply the butter immediately after bath time or after gently patting the skin with a damp cloth. Tallow is an occlusive moisturizer, meaning it excels at "locking in" the water already on the skin.
2. Warm a Tiny Amount
Because tallow is a solid fat, it can be firm in the jar. Scoop out a pea-sized amount and warm it between your palms or fingertips. It will quickly melt into a silky oil that is much easier to spread without pulling on sensitive skin.
3. Massage Gently.
Massage the melted butter into the skin using soft, circular motions.
4. Let it Absorb
A little goes a long way! If the skin feels excessively greasy after a few minutes, you may be using too much. Once applied, wait about 30 minutes for the nutrient-dense fats to fully penetrate the skin barrier before dressing your baby in tight clothing.
